Most photographers aren't underexposing because their camera can't handle high ISO. They're underexposing because they're scared of the number. The real cost isn't noise. It's a slower shutter in a dark venue, a blown brief, a client who got half-lit faces. Modern sensors handle ISO 6400 far better than most shooters give them credit for. If you're still treating 800 as your ceiling, you're leaving usable images on the table every time you walk into mixed light.
