AI 'Reimagining' of Ansel Adams Photo Sells for $10K at AIPAD

Gallery owner James Danziger used an AI prompt to produce a colourised version of Ansel Adams' 'Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico', then sold prints in editions of 10 at up to $10,000 each at the AIPAD art fair in New York. The Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust says it was never consulted and the project 'exploited' Adams' reputation. Danziger argues the original is in the public domain and his version involved months of editing and refinement beyond the initial prompt. The piece is an opinion-heavy write-up rather than a news report, but the underlying story is real: an AI-derived work based on one of photography's most recognisable images changed hands for serious money at a legitimate art fair, and the trust that manages Adams' legacy is publicly unhappy about it.
