Leica Pushed Back on Xiaomi's Shadow-Lifting Processing

Leica's VP of mobile Marius Eschweiler says the company pushed back hard on Xiaomi's engineering team over shadow brightening and heavy computational processing in co-branded phones. The result was the 'Leica Authentic' color mode on the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro, which leaves shadows intact rather than lifting them to show detail. Pablo Acevedo Noda, head of Leica's mobile engineering division, put it plainly: 'That computational imaging was getting too much in the picture for our taste.'
