Lightroom 15.5/9.5/11.5: Generative Expand, Render to DNG, Mask Sliders
Adobe has pushed simultaneous updates to Lightroom Classic (15.5), Desktop (9.5) and Mobile (11.5). The headline addition on Desktop and Mobile is Generative Expand, previously Photoshop-only since mid-2023, which fills canvas area created by perspective shifts or aspect ratio changes. Classic still doesn't get it. All three versions add Feather and Edge sliders to Subject, Background and Object masks for finer transition control. Classic and Desktop also get Render to DNG, a right-click command that bakes the current edit stack into a new DNG file — worth noting it's closer to compressed TIFF under the hood, so original highlight and shadow headroom is gone. Classic adds on-startup lrcat-data repair for corrupted catalog data.
