Meta VR Glasses: 100g, 5K Micro-OLED, $1,299, Ships Spring 2027

Meta's VR Glasses are the most direct competitor to Apple Vision Pro yet: 100g on your face, two micro-OLED panels at 2412x2288 per eye and 37 pixels per degree, compute and battery in a separate 300g puck, $1,299.99, shipping spring 2027. The field of view sits at 70° horizontal versus Vision Pro's roughly 100°, and Meta is upfront that's the trade-off for the weight. For photographers and filmmakers working in 180° immersive or stereoscopic formats, the narrower window means viewers see less of your frame at any moment and have to pan more to explore it, and at 37PPD, stitching seams and stereo misalignment will be more visible than on Quest 3. Content partnerships include Disney+ 3D streaming from November, ESPN 8K/180° live sports, National Geographic 180° 3D, and a James Cameron deal for stereoscopic blockbusters in 2027. The unresolved question for anyone shooting Apple Immersive Video format is whether URSA Cine Immersive footage can deliver to Meta's platform without re-projection. Meta hasn't published a creator delivery spec.
