Grey Market Imports Now Cost You $640 Extra at Nikon Service — and Other Brands Are Watching

Nikon Hong Kong just made grey market purchasing significantly more expensive, and not in a subtle way. From May 2026, any parallel import camera or lens brought in for repair gets slugged with a non-refundable admin fee before they even look at the actual fault. HK$3,000 for DX, HK$5,000 for FX. That's on top of parts and labour. The calculus on buying grey to save money just got a lot harder. The real story here isn't Hong Kong. It's whether this is a pilot before Nikon rolls it out in Europe or North America. If you've got grey market Nikon gear in your kit right now, check your repair options before something breaks on a job.
