At $400 USD, the Samyang 35mm f/1.8 FE sits in the most competitive slot in Sony's lens ecosystem. Sony's own Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 costs similar money and the Sigma 35mm f/2 DN isn't far above it. So if Samyang's image quality is genuinely complicated, that's the review telling you something. For event, travel, or documentary shooters who want a light kit and clean autofocus, the real question isn't whether it's cheap. It's whether corners and contrast hold up at f/1.8 on a 33MP or 61MP body when the client's looking at a 60-inch print. If the answer is 'mostly yes but with caveats', Tamron and Sigma are right there waiting.
