Sony 100-400mm GM II Leak: Constant f/4.5 and Internal Zoom
A single leaked nameplate photo isn't a product launch, and we're not treating it like one. But the constant f/4.5 aperture claim is worth filing away, because if it holds, Sony shooters who rely on the 100-400 for sport, wildlife, or aviation work get a genuinely more useful tool, consistent exposure through the zoom range without riding the ISO up at 400mm. The internal zoom is the other one to watch. Anyone who's shot from a gimbal or monopod with an extending telephoto knows how much the balance shifts mid-zoom. A fixed barrel solves that. The catch is size and price. At 318mm long and reportedly pushing $4,000 AUD equivalent territory, this stops being a travel-friendly compromise and starts competing directly with prime glass. Worth watching. Nothing to buy yet.
