Sony Semiconductor Solutions and TSMC have formalised their joint venture to manufacture image sensors in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. The deal is worth roughly 747 billion yen (~$4.7B AUD equivalent varies, USD ~$4.7B at 158 yen). Sony puts in ~$2.9B including its new Koshi fab and keeps controlling shareholder status; TSMC contributes ~$1.8B cash and its advanced process technology. The venture is named Advanced Vision Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation. Volume production is targeted for 2029.
