Sony and TSMC are setting up a joint venture to develop next-generation image sensors, with mass production pencilled in for 2029. The $6.3 billion project is based around an existing Sony Semiconductor Solutions site in Koshi, Kumamoto — Sony holds 60%, TSMC 40%. Per Nikkei Asia, the venture won't be formally established until March 2027, and finer details are still being worked out.
