Chinese third-party brands have been quietly dismantling the case for buying Japanese glass on a budget, but they've stayed in their lane: manual focus primes. Thypoch is now signalling a move into autofocus zoom territory, which is a different beast entirely. If this actually ships, it matters because affordable zoom AF has been Sigma and Tamron's turf almost exclusively. A credible Chinese alternative with competitive pricing could force a rethink on kit costs for working photographers building out a second-body travel or event setup. That said, the Phoblographer piece is light on confirmed specs or a release window, so file this under 'watch closely' rather than 'buy accordingly.' The intent is clear. The lens is not.
