Third-party glass challenging brand-name pricing is always worth your attention, and Viltrox just made a serious move. Sony's own 2x teleconverter sits at $600. Viltrox ships the same reach for $280. If the optical performance holds up, that's a genuine option for wildlife and sports shooters who've already maxed their budget on glass and can't justify doubling down on an OEM extender. The story here isn't the price cut in isolation. It's that Viltrox is the first third-party maker to crack Sony E-mount teleconverters at all, which means more competition is coming and Sony's premium on that category just got harder to defend.
