Skill isn't the bottleneck. If your work is getting ignored, the more likely problem is that you're shooting in a style the market already absorbed and moved on from. Moody dark tones, that specific film look, the overly-symmetrical architectural shot — they all had a moment. This piece won't give you a roadmap out of it, but naming the problem is useful. If your portfolio feels stuck, ask whether you're executing well inside a trend that peaked three years ago.
