That $280 gap buys a decent speedlight or two memory cards. If the optical performance holds up under scrutiny, Nikon Z shooters building out a kit have a genuine decision to make — not a compromise.

Sigma's 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art just beat every first-party 50mm on the market in Christopher Frost's shootout, landing above Canon's RF 50mm f/1.2 L, Sony's FE 50mm f/1.2 GM, and Nikon's Z 50mm f/1.2 S. If you're speccing a 50mm for portrait, editorial or event work, the Sigma costs significantly less than any of those native flagships and apparently outresolves them all.
