The OM-3 Astro is a single-purpose camera, and that's the point. OM System pulled the standard IR cut filter and replaced it with one tuned for Hydrogen Alpha wavelengths, then pre-loaded three custom shooting modes, Starry Sky autofocus on the AF-On button by default, and Live View Boost for dark foreground framing without a headtorch. At USD $2,500 body-only, it undercuts the modified camera conversion market significantly. The hard truth the review confirms: shoot it under daylight and you get an extreme red cast that's unusable. This is a dedicated astrophotography tool, full stop. If you're doing regular landscape or commercial work alongside your night sky shooting, buy the standard OM-3 and send a body out for conversion later. But if dark sky photography is your actual business or your serious side practice, this is the most turnkey Modified-sensor setup shipping from a major manufacturer right now.

Three separate announcements in one hit: OM System has released the OM-3 Astro, a camera body built specifically for astrophotography. Voigtlander is adding Canon RF mount to the Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 line-up. Fujifilm won the Japan Society of Photographic Sciences Technical Award for the GFX100RF and has announced a GFX Challenge Grant Program for 2026.
