Sony's Tamron bid goes official, plus a Kumamoto quake and Canon's earnings
Sony and Tamron both confirmed today that Sony has submitted a non-binding proposal to acquire the lens maker as a wholly-owned subsidiary, with a special committee now reviewing the offer. Elsewhere, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake in southern Japan halted production at Sony's largest sensor plant, and Canon posted a 35% jump in quarterly operating profit on strong compact camera demand. DJI's dual-lens Osmo Pocket 4P also went on sale in Australia.
