A 40-1200mm servo zoom in a single lens is genuinely useful on a wildlife or live events rig where pulling focus remotely matters more than portability. Canon is pitching this at documentary and surveillance operators who currently need multiple lenses or a teleconverter stack to cover that range. The T10.8 at the long end is a real limitation in low light, so this lives on rigs with proper camera support and good glass-to-sensor size matching. Niche, but for the right operator, this replaces a bag of glass.
