Green sourced the records directly from U.S. prisons, and the plates note date and state but no names. The scope runs from the mundane to the heartbreaking: one plate records a birthday cake ordered for a man who never had one; another, dated 1945, bears chicken drumsticks and watermelon beside the note 'He was only 15.'
