Samsung's new P9 portable SSD runs over USB4 and is rated at 4,000MB/s read and 3,800MB/s write — about twice what the T9 managed on USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. Both the P9 and the slightly more compatibility-focused P7 top out at 8TB, with Samsung claiming the P9 is the first USB4 portable SSD to hit that capacity. The P7 also carries a 2m drop rating. Speeds like this require a USB4-capable host to realise in practice.
