Sony Sensor Plant Halts Production After Japan Earthquake

Sony's Kumamoto sensor plant — reportedly capable of producing up to four million sensors per day — has halted production following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake on July 28. Fujifilm and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co also pulled workers from the nearby town of Kikuyo. Sony has confirmed building and manufacturing line damage is being evaluated, with no restart timeline announced. A 2016 quake in the same region shut the facility down for months.
