Sigma 50mm F1.4 CL: New Vintage-Style Line Trades Corner Sharpness for Character
Sigma's new 50mm F1.4 CL DG Contemporary is the first lens in a new CL line, positioned within the I series family: aluminium build, knurled hood, depth-of-field scale, 375g, 65mm long, 52mm filter thread, dust and splash sealed. Nine elements in six groups, three aspherics, one FLD element, minimum focus 0.45m. Sigma has stated openly that corner sharpness was sacrificed for size and rendering character, with soft falloff by design.

Sigma 50mm F1.4 CL DG Contemporary: 375g I-Series Prime, Early Spring 2027
Sigma has confirmed the 50mm F1.4 CL DG Contemporary, an all-metal full-frame prime for L-Mount and Sony E-mount weighing 375g with a 52mm filter thread. It uses a new RDD (Rotary Direct Drive) autofocus motor, a 14-blade rounded diaphragm, and an optical design (9 elements, 6 groups, one FLD and three aspherical) tuned to retain gentle focal-plane softness rather than chase peak sharpness. It sits inside Sigma's I series as the first CL-line lens, with an aperture ring, distance scale, and dust and splash resistance. Launch is early spring 2027; price not announced.
