Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Gets Phase Detect AF in Firmware 10.2.2
Blackmagic Design's free Camera 10.2.2 firmware adds phase detect autofocus to the Cinema Camera 6K, covering continuous AF, face tracking, and object tracking. The same update brings Blackmagic Cloud stream routing, 10-minute pre-record, and 4-channel audio. The PDAF system reads directly off the imaging sensor, so focus acquisition is faster and more stable than the contrast-based system it replaces.

Blackmagic PYXIS 12K Gets Phase Detect Autofocus in First Beta
Blackmagic has released beta firmware (Camera 10.2.96) adding phase-detect autofocus to the PYXIS 12K, settling a question that's been open since NAB 2025: the camera's RGBW sensor does support PDAF. The beta is Mac-only for now; the Windows installer is currently broken. Testing and feedback are being collected through the Blackmagic forum.

Blackmagic Cuts Cinema Camera 6K and Pyxis 6K Prices by Over $1000
Blackmagic Design has permanently cut prices on the Cinema Camera 6K and Pyxis 6K line, with savings of over $1000 USD across all four models. The Cinema Camera 6K now sits at $1595 USD (down from $2715), while Pyxis 6K variants land between $1995 and $2195 USD. Blackmagic says the reductions follow lower component costs, not a tariff adjustment.
