Leica Q3 vs Sony RX1R III: Which $5K+ Compact Actually Delivers?
Three weeks of real testing on both the $5K+ Sony RX1R III and $7K+ Leica Q3 makes this worth reading — these are the only two serious contenders if you want full-frame image quality in a pocketable fixed-lens body, and the choice between them is less obvious than the price gap suggests. If you're shooting street, travel, or anything where a mirrorless kit is too conspicuous, knowing which one actually delivers is the kind of intel that saves you an expensive mistake.

RX1R III vs Leica Q3: Does Sony's $5,100 Compact Justify Itself?
Five grand for a fixed-lens compact with decade-old battery tech sounds like a hard no. But the RX1R III isn't really competing with versatility, it's competing with a very specific kind of photographer who wants the smallest possible full-frame package and doesn't need the Swiss Army knife. The comparison against the Q3 is the right one to run, because these two cameras are chasing the same client: the travel shooter or street photographer who bills enough to justify carrying one beautiful, limiting tool. If the Sony wins on image quality but loses on usability, that's not a draw. That's a dealbreaker for most working photographers. Worth reading if you're actually considering either camera for paid work, safely ignorable if you're not already in this price bracket.

Leica Q3/Q3M/Q343 Firmware 4.1: DNG Color Fix Is the Real Win
The DNG color matrix fix is the one to act on. If you shoot Q3 files through Capture One or DxO and your color presets have felt slightly off, that wasn't you. Leica quietly updated the matrices baked into the DNG, which means third-party software using those matrices for colour rendering now has accurate data to work from. Install this before your next edit, not after. The profile-switching freeze fix is also worth having if you run multiple FOTOS-toggled profiles on a single body. The focus peaking control change is sensible housekeeping: keeping peaking off in AF mode reduces visual clutter during fast work. Nothing here reshapes the Q3 as a platform, but the DNG fix alone justifies the update.

Leica Kills Medium Format Mirrorless, Fujifilm Reshuffles
Two things actually worth your attention buried in this roundup. First: Leica has killed its mirrorless medium format project. That's a real strategic retreat. Anyone watching the medium format space should note that Fujifilm's GFX line just got less crowded at the top end. Second: Fujifilm Germany merging its digital camera and Instax divisions sounds like internal admin, but divisional reshuffles at this level usually signal where a manufacturer thinks its growth is coming from. Leica Q3 firmware 4.1 is out now if you're shooting one — go grab it before your next job.

Leica's Metal Gray Refresh Coming in Waves: May–June 2026
Leica is spreading its Metal Gray product announcements across a few weeks rather than one coordinated drop, with the M11-P possibly leading the charge in late May and the Q3, D-Lux 8, and APO-M 50mm f/2 following in June. The practical upshot for anyone eyeing this lineup: don't hold your breath waiting for a single launch event. These are colour and finish variants of existing bodies, not new platforms, so the specs won't surprise anyone. If you've been sitting on a Leica purchase hoping the Metal Gray finishes would land first, now you know the rough window. Worth watching, not worth clearing your calendar.
