Apple Rebuilds Raw Processor with Built-in Denoising at Demosaicing Stage
Apple detailed its 9th Raw processor at WWDC26, integrating denoising directly into the demosaicing step rather than treating it as a separate pass. The company says this produces sharper images across the board and a meaningful jump in quality on high-noise files. It supports Raw from hundreds of cameras across all major manufacturers, and any third-party app built on Core Image gets the update without extra work.

Apple RAW 9 Overhauling RAW Processing Pipeline in iOS/macOS 27
Apple's RAW 9 pipeline lands with iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 later this year, the first major revision since RAW 8 in 2017. The update processes demosaicing and denoising in a single simultaneous pass rather than separate sequential steps, with Apple claiming cleaner noise reduction and sharper detail as a result. Worth noting: apps that run their own RAW pipelines, Adobe's included, won't use it.
