Thypoch Simera-C 16mm T1.9 Cinema Lens Launched
Thypoch has launched the Simera-C 16mm T1.9, the widest lens in the series, joining existing 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 75mm options. It covers full-frame with a 106-degree field of view, T1.9 maximum aperture, 15 elements in 11 groups, and near-zero focus breathing.

Sony Announces Rialto 65 Large-Format Sensor Module for Venice 2
Sony has announced the Rialto 65, a large-format sensor block for the Venice 2 cinema camera. The sensor measures 53.75 x 35.83mm in a 3:2 aspect ratio, putting it in the same ballpark as the Arri Alexa 65 (54.12 x 25.58mm) and the Phase One IQ4's 53.4 x 40mm chip. No pixel count or sensor architecture details confirmed. On show at Cine Gear Expo in LA this week; availability expected first half of 2027.

Sony Announces 65mm Medium Format Sensor for Venice 2 Cinema System
Sony has announced the RIALTO 65, a new medium format sensor module for the modular Venice 2 cinema camera. The sensor is 53.7x35.83mm in a 3:2 aspect ratio, physically larger than the medium format sensors in the Fujifilm GFX and Hasselblad X2D lines. This is a development announcement for the Venice 2 cine system, not a stills camera.

Sony Announces Rialto 65 Sensor Block for Venice 2
Sony has announced the Rialto 65, a 65mm-format sensor block built to expand the Venice 2 cinema platform. Scheduled for the first half of 2027, it drops into existing Venice 2 bodies to add large-format capability. No pricing confirmed yet.

Sony VENICE 2 Firmware V5.00: Signature Look, 4K 47.95p SDI
Sony VENICE 2 gets firmware V5.00, free for both the 8.6K and 6K sensor versions. Three additions: a Signature Preset Look for monitoring (sits alongside existing looks, lets crews view a graded reference without affecting recorded X-OCN or XAVC files), 4K 47.95p over 12G SDI (closes a gap for productions running 48fps-class project rates), and support for the CNA-2 Camera Control Network Adaptor as a LAN conversion adaptor. Sony confirmed earlier this year that VENICE 2 firmware updates continue through 2027, with V6.0 still to come.

ARRI Sells Global Rental Business in Management Buy-Out
ARRI is selling its global rental business in a management buy-out backed by H2 Equity Partners, with Dana Harrison as incoming CEO of the standalone rental entity. Illumination Dynamics stays with ARRI. Separately, the FCC has fined companies the agency describes as DJI front operations, and Sony has announced the RX10 V along with the LYTIA L910 smartphone sensor. Firmware updates are out for the Sony VENICE 2 and FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA 55.

Sony FX5 Announced: Full-Frame 5K, Internal X-OCN RAW, 4K 240p
Sony's FX5 is a new full-frame Cinema Line body with a 16.6MP stacked sensor, 5K open gate, internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW, three base ISOs, and 4K up to 240fps. It slots between the FX3 and FX6 and pairs the new BIONZ XR2 processor with a stacked readout architecture the FX3 never had.
