Hoda Afshar: Photography Rooted in Iran's 'Burned Generation'

auto_awesomePixelfetch Take
Hoda Afshar, an Iranian-born, Australia-based artist, has a practice shaped by coming of age under Iran's theocratic morality enforcement in the 1990s, including repeated detention in solitary confinement cells. Her work centres on people inside systems designed to erase their humanity, drawn from what she calls her generation's identity as the nasl-e sukhteh, the 'burned generation' born after the 1979 revolution.
