Jay Maisel, Photographer and Educator, Dies at 95

Jay Maisel died on August 24, 2026, aged 95. His career ran from 1954 through more than seven decades of editorial, advertising and street work, and he taught over 640 workshop students his foundational "light, color, gesture" philosophy. The Kind of Blue cover portrait remains his most recognised single image. Honours included the ICP Infinity Award, an ASMP Lifetime Achievement Award and induction into the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame.
