John Divola photographed The X-Files soundstages in 2001 during production downtime, the project published by Aperture. The work sits inside a longer thread in Divola's practice: vernacular American spaces, fabricated environments, and the gap between representation and reality, a line he'd been pulling since the Zuma series in the late 1970s and his found-image book Continuity in 1997.
