Tamron's free V3 firmware for the 25-200mm F2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 bumps maximum magnification at 50mm from 1:3.1 to 1:1.7, with at least 1:2 reproduction guaranteed across the 25-70mm range. Available now via Tamron Lens Utility.

Tamron has pushed a firmware update for the 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 (A075) that notably improves close-focusing at the wide end. A firmware update that changes close-focus performance rather than just adding body compatibility or fixing AF behaviour is unusual for a lens released this recently.

Sony Proposes to Acquire Tamron as Wholly Owned Subsidiary
Sony has made a non-binding proposal to acquire Tamron and fold it into Sony Group as a wholly owned subsidiary. Tamron confirmed the proposal and has set up a Special Committee to review its options. Sony already owns around 15% of Tamron and the two have shared a manufacturing relationship for years. Tamron currently makes lenses across Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount, with an APS-C line that also covers Canon.
