Sony is rumoured to announce a new FX-series cinema camera on July 22nd, per PhotoRumors. The unconfirmed specs include a 16.6MP full-frame stacked CMOS, triple base ISO at 800/4000/12800, approximately 16 stops of dynamic range, internal 16-bit RAW recording in X-OCN LT format, IBIS, dual card slots (CFexpress Type A + SD), and a 3.5-inch articulating touchscreen. Body-only pricing is reported at over €5,000. The model name is unconfirmed — FX4 and FX5 are both in circulation.

Sony's FX5 is a new full-frame Cinema Line body with a 16.6MP stacked sensor, 5K open gate, internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW, three base ISOs, and 4K up to 240fps. It slots between the FX3 and FX6 and pairs the new BIONZ XR2 processor with a stacked readout architecture the FX3 never had.

Sony Japan has confirmed price hikes across its Cinema Line, effective September 1, 2026. The FX3A body goes from ¥581,900 to ¥693,000 (up 19.1%), the FX6 body from ¥935,000 to ¥1,045,000 (up 11.8%), the FR7 PTZ from ¥1,430,000 to ¥1,622,500 (up 13.5%), and the FX30 body from ¥297,000 to ¥319,000 (up 7.4%). Sony cites rising raw material, manufacturing, and logistics costs. No Australian pricing announced yet, but Japan moves often flow through to other markets.

Sony has announced two cinema control monitors: the 7-inch RM-DP7 ($3,099.99 USD) and 5-inch RM-DP5 ($2,299.99 USD), both shipping January 2027. Each runs the BIG6 six-parameter interface on a 2,000-nit Full HD panel and lets you pull focus, set exposure, and control zoom remotely. Compatible at launch with the FX5, FX3, FX2, and FX30; FX6 and BURANO support coming via firmware in the second half of 2027. The DP7 is the only model with 12G-SDI and DC input. Both take BP-U batteries or USB-PD power, carry up to 16 user LUTs in CUBE format, and can go wireless paired with a Hollyland Pyro Ultra.

Angelbird's new CFexpress Type A v4 cards are built around updated NAND and controller hardware, carrying both VPG400 (required for Sony FX5 X-OCN recording) and VPG800 certification, with capacities from 200GB to 1.6TB. No current Sony body needs VPG800, but the headroom is built in. CEO Roman Rabitsch also addressed the current spike in memory prices in conversation with CineD at IBC 2026.

Sony's RM-DP7 (7-inch) and RM-DP5 (5-inch) connect to Cinema Line cameras over two cables: USB-C for camera control and HDMI or SDI for the image feed. Both panels hit 2,000 nits. Accsoon's CineView M7 monitors picked up camera control for Nikon Z series bodies this year, joining previously supported Sony and Canon mirrorless and cinema cameras including the FX6 and EOS C400. Free firmware across 29 iterations also added a vertical UI and an open Android layer that lets users write their own apps for the display. The three 7-inch models in the line sit at different price points depending on whether you need SDI, HDMI, or built-in dual-band wireless.
